GRADATION ON ENGLISH TEXT BOOKS OF CLASS III(TAMILNADU)

GRADATION: 
          Gradation is one of the steps in series  showing how one thing slowly becomes more or less or heavy or serious or bright. A series forming successive stages the gradationd the gradations of evolutionary development. 
BENEFITS OF GRADATION: 
         Gradation helps to determine almost every important property including stability and durability. By doing gradation we can explore the effectiveness and appropriateness of the text book. 
SELECTION OF TEXT BOOK: 
           Here I have selected 3rd standard 3rd term English book from Tamilnadu state government. 
           Text book is one of the media used in English language using. Here my aim is to detmine the suitability of activities and skills in the text book. 
This is 3rd class text book of Tamilnadu. 
PREFACE: 
         The English language text book has been designed to enable a fun-filled and engaging experience in learning the language. The approach allows for plenty of practice in the four language skills.  It focuses on structure practice and vocabulary enrichment through a variety of language learning activities. These activities evoke interest and engaged practice in the language and thus to learn retention.  
    The preface of the text book is clear. It includes all the aspects of the text book.  
     Content page has been given with title, page number and month. 
It is very useful to the teachers to frame their lesson plan.  Apart from this, there are some QR codes, E-book, E-assessment and Digital link. Really it's very helpful for the teachers to teach and to evaluate the Children. 
    There is a page, before starting of each lesson is My LITTLE PICTIONARY. In this page I could see new words of the lesson and it's meaning with picture explanation. This page creates interest among the students to learn new lesson. 
  This is the first lesson. 
   LISTENING:
The lesson  started with title of LET US LEARN  and ended with LET US UNDERSTAND.  In this story lesson they  have given more concentration on listening skill.  Next there is page where they introduced grammar part with QR code. Really this method is wonderful to introduce grammar part. 
     Then they  introduced  poem, here they have given more chances to develop their listening skill. QR videos help the children to listen and enjoy the rhymes. 
   There are some more exercises like choose, circle, complete and fill in the blanks which helps to improve their listening skill. After giving enough chance to listen slowly they move to the next skill Speaking. 
SPEAKING:
 
In this book, they have given enough time and appropriate activities to develop their speaking skill. For developing speaking skill they introduced peer group activity . So that Children can start to speak easily without any fear or hesitation. It's appreaiatable. 
    After listening and speaking, they have given opportunity to develop reading skill. 
READING:
For reading practice they have given very interesting animal story. After reading practice there is an exercise , they have to arrange the pictures to the story what they read. This exercise helps them to read with more concentration. 
      Then one more special in this book is, they given separate exercise for reading aloud. This exercise helps to check their pronunciation, stress, pause, intonation and speed. They have given enough time to read the passage 3 times. It helps them to rea the content fluently. 
WRITING:
 After giving enough time for reading next they have come to writing skill. They have given opportunity for own creative writing.  For developing writing skill, they have choosen the exercise like dialogue writing, paragraph writing and story writing. This types of writing exercise helps the children not only to improve their writing skill but also to develop their imagination, to enrich their vocabulary and to develop their creative thinking.

These are the exercises have given to develop their writing skill. 
I CAN DO: 
      This  the special activitywith QR code  has given back at the end of  each lesson which helps for self evaluation.  By doing this activity children can know about  their understanding and their level. 
Like this, for each lesson they have given I can do exercise to check their learning.    
           After finishing I can do there is one more  special item that is LEARNING OUTCOMES.
 Children can read the learning exercise  which is given in balloon  and they can colour it by themselves. This is very important and interesting for students. 
  This book contains some interesting words , let us learn, let us understand, let us build, let us sing, let us know, let us speak, let us rea, let us read aloud and let us write. These words make interest among the students to learn.  
CONCLUSION: 
    A good English book must contains aim, objectives, felicitate teaching learning process, activities/ exercise and vocabulary. I could see all the above aspects in 3rd standard 3rd term English book of Tamilnadu government. Preparation of this text book is really superb. All the content and activities in this book are started from simple to complex and known to unknown. This type of book is very comfortable for primary children. That's all my gradation work
